Our October screening is Lina Wertmüller's thrilling Seven Beauties!

Lina Wertmüller was the first woman ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Director for this film!

In 1930s Italy, Pasqualino (Giancarlo Giannini), a low-level Sicilian thug, kills a man who disgraced his sister. Pasqualino pleads insanity and manages to escape imprisonment by joining the military, but he decides to go AWOL when things get too heavy. Unfortunately, he soon finds himself stuck in a concentration camp. There, Pasqualino vows to do anything in order to survive.

This week's discussion will be led by Professor Francesca Degiuli, who teaches sociology at Fairleigh Dickinson University.  Dr. Degiuli holds a doctorate degree in sociology and has focused her research on gender issues in society, and she has a background in documentary filmmaking.  Her latest publication is entitled Caring for a Living: Migrant Women, Aging Citizens and Italian Families.  You can read more about Dr. Degiuli in this article from News-Record.
